Let the guest of honor shape the starting list
Ask the guest of honor for favorite artists, a few essential songs and music they would rather avoid. A focused starting list gives the DJ a sense of personality without prescribing every minute. Parents can add family favorites and identify songs or lyrics that need special care.
Agree together on clean versions and how to handle requests from friends. A familiar song may have several edits, so provide a specific version when it matters. Review selections before the event instead of making the first music discussion at the DJ booth.
Give special moments their own music notes
List introductions, family dances, speeches and any traditions your family plans to include. For each moment, write down the song, participant names, pronunciation and whether the track should start at a particular point. Confirm who gives the DJ the cue.

Combine the music notes, timeline and key contacts into one final document. Check that the venue’s sound limits and any microphone needs are understood. Ask when selections should be finalized and how late changes should be communicated.
